You heard wrong, A shared hosting account might say its unlimited on space, bandwidth, etc. but it's not, you also have a limit on CPU load. So the more traffic your site generates the more load it causes on the Servers CPU. We passed that limit like 4 or 5 times already and thats why they keep shutting down our scripts to lighten the load on the CPU. Remember a Shard Hosting account might be on a Server that has 100 other users on it and 100% of a CPU has to be shared between 100 users there fore each user gets a 1% load.

On a dedicated server we "own" the server and can do as we please on it
