Well, for the last month I have been downloading about 600 GB this month alone, I have been averaging about a terabyte of data per month now for the last 4 months, which is alot compared to the average internet user. I received a call from comcast regarding violation of terms of service usage, basically they said that we are slowing down the network of comcast from the exceeding downloading. I then thought to myself, if there is no limit on the amount that a user is allowed to download, they advertise "Unlimited High Speed Internet" why am I getting this call.. so I asked the guy, he says that only about 1 in 3 million people exceed normal bandwidth usage he then told me that I have been downloading the most he has ever seen he then went on and said, its normal for a user to download around 2 GB per month, not 600GB or even a Terabyte. So I asked him, if there is no limit, how am I impacting other peoples internet? He then told me that it is negatively impacting the network, I then asked him if there is a limit on the cable modem to limit the amount of bandwidth being transferred, which I already knew the answer to, and expecting the answer, he said yes, but, our download is always constant and always at maximum download and upload possible. Then I came back to my point on how if there is no limit on the amount your allowed, how am I harming anyone else.... Then he goes on about how if you go to an all you can eat buffet, you can eat 2 plates, 10 plates or even 50 plates of food without impacting other customers, but then it comes to a point where other customers cant eat because of your constant munching on food all day long. So this is pretty much what just happened, so now I have to stop downloading as much, even though supposedly there is no limit..... hmmmmm. obviously there is.

I had a similar issue when I was downloading a lot of torrents, My ISP called me and said they had received a phone call from the FBI stating that I had been downloading Illegal torrents. My ISP even went as far as tellling me the exact name of the torrents and what directory they were in on my computers. Now if that isn't scarey enough to make a person throw his hard drive in a river I dont know what is.
I use to run a web server from my house, And my ISP never said a word about the bandwidth I was using. Last edited by Idenity Crisis; 06-11-2008 at 01:22 PM.. |

I apologize about the section, I meant to post in the general section, my bad.
And Crisis, I had that issue with Comcast before where we were Infringing on copyright acts by downloading copyright movies/games. The way around them is to use PeerGuardian2. It will stop them from seeing exactly what is being downloaded. In my case, they see it as data now, and alot of it, more than a large city would download in a month :/ So I guess I will just have to take it easy, cough cough, 50 GB a month will do for me :) I might even try to push 100 GB haha. But 600 GB is alot I suppose to be downloaded in a months time. |

I wonder if I'll get this call because I'm downloading just about 3-4 4GB files everyday so in about a month thats probably close to 400gb but I've been downloading at this rate for such a long time so I don't know maybe there isn't a limit their just being nosey or pick on people.

Every internet company is trying to start doing this nowadays, even time warner. Comcast only exist so TimeWarnerCable isnt a monopoly in home/business communications. But i've been DL'ing well over 500gb/month for a whie noe and TW aint said shit to me. Amd if they did, im sure some one would get theyer lawyer involved and make a big mess of this so i dont see download caps hitting big anytime soon.

Thats not a bad idea, since there is no rule against the amount you are allowed to download.
