i have a 250 gig external hard drive. i am looking to put music and videos on it, so i could play them with my ps3. what files do i need to put them in?

just format ur hard drive on the ps3 console itself

I'd say maybe putting the music files in a folder along the lines of PS3->MUSIC ? or something similar. I maybe wrong.

Have you tried highlighting the 'USB mass external device (or something similar)' and select triangle, then go to 'Display All'.

...I had this same issue, but didn't have the patience to try and resolve it.
