My huge question is, does this thing need to be plugged into a stereo or TV to hear game sound and Xbox Live conversation, or can you just plug it into your controller and get both to come through?

Skullcandy Headphones
I recently purchased these as well... no instructions and I can't figure out how the hell to get them to work with my xbox live and sound. Anyone have any idea where you hook them up to work?

are they designed to be used for the xbox?
also if the inputs are two coloured cables it means that theyre meant for pc online gaming. but you can get a usb soundcard, thats what works on the ps3, which you plug the two inputs into then into teh console itself |

yea the only reason i bought these was there werent any more normal headsets for xbox 360. other people can hear me talk on xbox live but i cant hear them unless i have the mike unplugged from the controller. it sucks!

Solution
The reason why you can't hear anyone when your mic is plugged in, is because the official Xbox mic only has one cord, which is your mic and headset, and the skull candy mic and headset has two cords. The simple solution to this is, on your Xbox go to personal seetings, then voice, and select voice output to speakers. This will have your mic wire open so it can be used as a mic not both, since it wasn't made like that, and your headset will be where you hear your teammates or enemies talking, or the speakers of your Xbox/TV. So stop putting negative remarks on things you don't know
